Week 2 of Building a Digital Product

As I complete Week 2 of developing my own digital product, the time has finally come to start designing! My primary goals for this week were to record most of the sound effects and test/edit the sounds into a close to complete form. Some secondary goals I worked on were to develop a folder category system as well as begin drafts for all of the documentation marketing materials I will need for the webpage.

After my 2 hour recording session on Audacity, I actually found it quite simple to import the sounds onto Discord. All it requires is for one to download the file and then you are able to name it and adjust the gain level within the program. I did run into a few connectivity problems at the beginning when I was trying to record sound as my mic wasn’t registered properly. After troubleshooting a little, I managed to fix the issue by switching the audio outputs and plugging the mic back in and out. At the end of this week, I was able to record about 11 unique sounds, setup folder and naming conventions, develop digital marketing assets to supplement my product webpage as well as work on my ReadMe/Instructions document.

Also, after thinking about the marketability of a “meme” sound pack a bit more, I found that it might be more enticing for the brand to focus on just one meme like the Italian Brainrot meme. After doing a lot of research on the Italian Brainrot meme, it seems as though there are multiple sounds I could record within it that I could solely focus on and save the rest of the sounds for another volume in the future. For example, the Italian Brainrot meme has about 57 known characters that all have their own unique sound. Instead of developing a compilation of the current best memes. I could specialize solely on Italian Brainrot.

My goal for this week was not to perfect all of the pieces of this digital product, but to develop a preliminary version of everything so that I could progress as far as I can function-wise. Although I didn’t hit too many road blocks this week, what I didn’t expect to be so difficult was the recording sessions. There were many times where I would record something and then hear some sort of background noise which resulted in me having to record again. I would also have to prepare myself mentally to essentially “perform” these sound effects in order to get the desired tone I wanted. However, I’m glad that I have gotten  the brunt of the content finished and completed. I can now spend most of next week refining and perfecting the product. Next week, I’d like to focus on refinement.

For my next steps, I think it’d be great to film a quick promo video utilizing these sound effects in action. Since I am specifically selling a product that deals with sound, I think it’s crucial for the product to shine in itself. I’d also like to record quick tutorials on how to add these sounds into the Discord Soundboard or a video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro.
